OL903 GhostCasting and GhostCast Server
Training delivered to your desktop via live webinar What is the function of the GhostCast Server?
The GhostCast Server enables the delivery of an Image file to multiple computers simultaneously through a single, IP multicast transmission, which minimizes the impact on network traffic. The GhostCast Server sends and receives Images to or from one or more computers - this method of delivery is usually faster than accessing a mapped network drive.
The GhostCast Server sends and receives Images to or from one or more computers, using a method of delivery that is usually faster than accessing a mapped network drive. The primary disk imaging functions of Ghost still take place in DOS, using the ghost.exe executable file. However, a client computer still needs a way to communicate with a server, whether the server is the Ghost Console, a GhostCast Server or even another client in a peer-to-peer connection. The most efficient way of communicating is via one of the GhostCasting protocols; multicasting, directed broadcasting or unicasting. Once an Image file is captured, the GhostCast Server enables the delivery of the Image to multiple computers simultaneously through a single IP multicast transmission, which minimizes the impact on network traffic. This session describes how GhostCasting works and includes procedures for both capturing and deploying Images.
